Read a novel / book (I love this one.. takes me away into another realm! =p)

Go for a walk in peaceful park / garden, or just sit there to clear off your mind...

Ugly Duckling

.

Yes, some of us..we were once an Ugly Duckling before..

Some one us later turned out to be a Swan,

While some of us remain as a duck.. BUT definitely not as ugly as before.. ^_^

Well.. I sure am THANKFUL I turned out to be a normal duck after all!
QUACK!!!!!
Got this sudden urge to post this as I just got tagged on a photo by my ex-classmate taken during our high school days, 12 years ago! I can barely recognise myself! I look so... erm.. I was going to say retarded.. but I am not trying to belittle anyone, mind you.. So..that's why I felt like an UGLY duckling..(yes, supposedly to be more accurate, an ugly pig..) LOL!

Why Do We Hurt The Ones We Love The Most

.

Seriously, there are A LOT of reasons why we hurt the ones we love the most OR the one we love most, hurts us the worst! But I guess, one of the main reason is because they are so close to us, we felt too comfortable to say whatever we want although knowing damn well we will hurt them, and at the same time we know they will later forgive us. Tsk Tsk Tsk...

The song "I HATE MYSELF FOR LOVING YOU!" by Joan Jett is ringing in my head right now.. it's such an AWESOME SONG!!! ^_^

"I hate myself for loving you
Can't break free from the the things that you do
I wanna walk but I run back to you that's why
I hate myself for loving you "

After a while, I feel like dancing to this.. I mean like.. ROCK ON!!! hahahaha! Yeah.. I think it's quite a good de-stress song! :p

Then, I came across a song by Mills Brothers and I find the lyrics are so hmm... well.. kinda true although the melody.. is a bit too slow..

You always hurt the one you love
The one you shouldn't hurt at all
You always take the sweetest rose
And crush it till the petals fall
You always break the kindest heart
With a hasty word you can't recall
So If I broke your heart last night
It's because I love you most of all
Listen to Mills Brother's version )
Listen to Michael Buble's version )

Sometimes, it's not just your partner or spouse hurts you (or vice versa), but it also includes your family members, especially your siblings / parents. Whatever is is, they say BLOOD IS THICKER THAN WATER..so.. LET THERE BE LOVE!!!

Something to read if you have time to spare : A snippet of a book entitled : Cupidity
GOSH! There's a facebook page / group called : Why Do We Hurt The One We Love.. SERIOUSLY???!!!

Gotta ..Chin Up! Chest Out! (That's what my drilling master used to bark at us during my girl guide days)...

Valentine's Day & Single Awareness Day

.

Valentine's Day and Single Awareness Day (S.A.D) is not a public holiday but everyone seems to make big moolahs and hoo-haa out of it, every year on 14th of February.

Which one do I celebrate? BOTH!! LOL! Well it's still a LOVE-ly day not only for couples but for family, siblings and friends! Spread the LOVE!!!

Businesses, big or small, they all rake in lotsa CASH on day like this.. with so many people buying gifts, flowers and the $$ spent on food... It's like a mini Christmas for them!!

Like this shoe.. Pretty!!
How can you not buy (if the $$ is reasonable?) =p

Even advertisements were being manipulated for the day of LOVE =p

Too cheesy?

Lame...LOL!

I don't think this would be a welcoming gift if you're with a "normal" minded partner :p

Oh Well... whatever day it is, stay happy and do what you feel you're more comfortable with. Don't get to stressed with peer-pressure.
Just because someone has a date and you don't, doesn't make you a douche-bag :) So chin up! It's still cool to be single and looking at the brighter side, you don't get the relationship problems that couples have to face.. so enjoy being single while you can =p

Moderately Depressed?

.

*by MystiqueAsh*

She remembers the feeling of being in bliss
And having the peace of mind and soul..
PRICELESS!!

Yet..More than often, DEPRESSION sets in,
Sometimes it caused her to be so out of tune..
She knows,
Staying depressed for too long eats her up..
Starts to holler at herself:
Think of happy thoughts!
Think of cheerful moments!
Think of all the love she received from God, family and friends!
Think of the many smiles and laughter shared between them all!

A voice says: C’mon! You can do it!
Another says: Forget it, no matter what you do, it’s USELESS!

NO! Ain’t giving up!!
She held her head high and tells herself,
She would be HAPPY again!

Information below are snippets/ articles available from:

Life is full of emotional ups and downs. But when the "down" times are long lasting or interfere with an individual's ability to function, that person may be suffering from a common, but serious psychological problem – depression. Stress can be a factor to depression but a person may be depressed even without a stressful lifestyle.

Depression is a major risk factor for suicide. Thoughts of death or suicide are a serious symptom of depression, so take any suicidal talk or behavior seriously. It's not just a warning sign that the person is thinking about suicide: it's a cry for help.

Depression in men
Depressed men tend to complain about fatigue, irritability, sleep problems, and loss of interest in work and hobbies. Other signs and symptoms of depression in men include anger, aggression, violence, reckless behavior, and substance abuse. Even though depression rates for women are twice as high as those in men, men are a higher suicide risk, especially older men.
Depression in women
Rates of depression in women are twice as high as they are in men. This is due in part to hormonal factors, particularly when it comes to premenstrual syndrome (PMS), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), postpartum depression, and perimenopausal depression. It affects their physical well-being (gaining / losing weight), chronic fatigue, sleep problems, and changes in appetite. It affects the way they think, interfering with concentration and decision making. Therefore, their behaviour is affected, with increased irritability and loss of temper, social withdrawal, and a reduction in their desire to engage in pleasurable activities.
Helping Yourself
Depressive disorders make you feel exhausted, worthless, helpless, and hopeless. Such negative thoughts and feelings make some people feel like giving up.
  • Do not set difficult goals for yourself, or take on additional responsibility.
  • Break large tasks into small ones, set some priorities, and do what you can as you can.
  • Do not expect too much from yourself too soon, as this will only increase your feelings of failure.
  • Try to be with other people; it is usually better than being alone.
  • Force yourself to participate in activities that may make you feel better.
  • Try engaging in mild exercise, going to a movie, a ball-game, or participating in religious or social activities.
  • Don't overdo it or get upset if your mood is not greatly improved right away. Feeling better takes time.
  • Do not make major life decisions, such as changing jobs, getting married or divorced, without consulting others who know you well and who have a more objective view of your situation. In any case, it is advisable to postpone important decisions until your depression has lifted.
  • Do not expect to snap out of your depression. People rarely do. Help yourself as much as you can, and do not blame yourself for not being up to par.
  • Remember, do not accept your negative thinking. It is part of the depression and will disappear as your depression responds to treatment.
  • Get help from a professional. No matter how much you want to beat it yourself, a psychologist can help you recover faster.

Post Wisdom Teeth Surgery

.

What’s my diet regime after the surgery?
- Yoghurt
- Ice Creams
- Cream of Mushroom Soup
- Cream of Chicken Soup
- Chocolate Milk (I don’t like to drink milk…so chocolate would be tolerable enough)
- Tofu

By Saturday (the fifth day after the surgery), my cheeks were still swollen… Got a little worried whether they will subside in time before I report back to work on Monday. I still can’t really open my mouth wide enough to shove the whole spoonful of whatever I wanna eat but I was feeling so greedy that I couldn’t resist grabbing a small piece of chicken nugget and nibbled on them! How do I feel? A teeny bit happier but still frustrated because I couldn’t taste nor munch properly. Not being able to eat well makes me feel awfully irritated! Monday came and although I felt a bit restless, I dragged myself out of bed and head on to office. Told my colleagues don’t try to say or do anything funny because I can’t laugh and also I don’t wanna get agitated with them at the same time. My mood was still rather crappy.

By Thursday (ninth day post surgery day), I realized that I can chew lightly on both sides of my teeth with a slight uncomfortable feeling on the stitches but.. hey.. at least I can munch rather than using my front teeth to nibble..Can’t really enjoy food by nibbling…

Two weeks after the surgery, it’s time to visit the dentist again to remove stitches! @_@ Started to get flashback of the pain and all that happened during surgery…but my friends that went through the process before told me that I shouldn’t worry because taking out the stitches won’t hurt much. So, I took a deep breath, walked into the room, greet the doc and sat on the chair I sat last two weeks ago. He asked me how many days was my cheeks swollen up. Told him it was about 1 week to past before I look quite normal again.

He told me that he had another patient, a man in his 30’s, after me on the same day I did my surgery. That man also took the oral sedative like I did and he started to snore during the surgery! The doc started chuckling and said “Different person reacted differently..your’s is a slower effect huh” I went.. “uh.. ha ha ha?”

After that, I ask him will it be painful to take out the stitches? He said not at all…I told him to Please Please Please spray more numb medicine on the area. I felt a slight pain when the “scissors” has to go through in between and cut the stitches but other than that.. ALL WAS OK!! PHEEEWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!! No SUPER MASSIVE PAIN!! ^_^

My Wisdom Teeth Removal

.

The day has finally come for me to get my wisdom teeth removed – one each, on my left and right of the lower jaw. My appointment to remove these two, have been long overdue since end of 2007! The fear of the word, minor surgery freaks me out and since they didn’t give me much problem at that time, I decided to postpone the visit as long as I could.. =p

Condition of my lower jaw wisdom teeth:
Both of them grew sideways instead of upwards like my other teeth. The right side’s gum surrounding the wisdom tooth have started to swell and the left side tooth started to have a hole and decaying. This one hurts the most.

In fact, my upper jaw wisdom teeth grew downward nicely enough. But the doc said sooner or later I would need to remove those as well.. But since those on the upper jaws are not giving me problems YET, I rather let them be and look into the problematic ones first.

I’ve decided to removed both at the lower jaw at the same time.. I am not brave enough to go back the second time to remove another side after the first.
I was told to consume two pills of oral sedatives (sleeping pills), two pills of painkillers and one tab of antibiotic, an hour before surgery.
Surgery was set at 12.30pm so I am supposed to consume those pills at 11.30am. Only I was 5 minutes late, took all of them at 11.35am. The painkiller is working as my left side didn’t hurt anymore. By then, I didn’t even wanna go to the clinic to go through the removal procedures!!
But I know painkiller effect would be temporary… so OFF I go and reached the clinic at 12.20pm.

12.30pm - Went into the room where my mini surgery would be performed. The doctor was surprised that I was still wide awake and actively chatting. (I WAS SO SCARED ACTUALLY!!)

5 minutes later, he gave me a few jabs onto my gums left and right nearby the teeth that’s supposed to be removed. I forgot to close my eyes and I saw the FREAKING needle!! Started to get more terrified! I heard the doc said “Relax ya…” and the nurse said “Just an ants bite”..UGH!

12.45pm – I wasn’t feeling the slightest drowsiness. I told the nurse amidst my starting to numb lips and tongue, “I'm still not sleepy!” The doc replied me. “The effect on patients differs, some patients only takes 30 minutes and they started to get very sleepy, looks like it’s taking a slower effect on you..let’s wait 5 more minutes…”

My heart was beating fast..I tried to relax..tried to close my eyes..Not even 5 minutes have passed and the doc came over, I heard him. The nurse asked me to wear a sunglass, to protect my eyes whe she assists the doc to adjust the lighting later. Like so glamorous huh? hahaha..
I put the glasses on but my eyes were still open when I saw the doc taking something that look like a small scalpel? I went silently “Oh No…here it comes..” he said open your mouth, don’t worry…

I closed my eyes from then onwards..hearing the drilling, the sound of cracking..everything..he started with my right tooth. When he started pulling the tooth out, I shivered, uncontrollably. Petrified…. Sheesh!
Thank God, it went quite well..No pain..not even when he started to sew on my gums.

Not on my left tooth though. It hurt so much that I shouted and my legs were curled up, luckily I didn’t kick anything. The doctor said there’s an infection, he needs to put another jab onto my roots!! The jab was done but I can still feel the pain especially when he was yanking the tooth out. I can’t help it, tears ran down my cheeks. I didn’t feel it when the tooth came out but all I know is that after that he started sewing and told me it’s all over and done with. The nurse said “Yaay!!” @_@..I know she’s trying to cheer me up. She said "Rest a while more ok...” and gave me a tap on my shoulder. I nodded but I think the pain killer have started to wear off, the pain was beginning to be unbearable.

I struggled to tell the doc “Painkiller.. I need painkillers” He said, “Don’t worry, you’ll collect it later” I managed to say thank you. After that the nurse asked me to rinse my mouth, yeap I can see blood…then the doc placed gauze on both sides of the surgery area. Then, I sat up, walked out slowly from the room, couldn’t stand it anymore…started sobbing..sniffing..

My boyfriend was seated at the couch, still waiting, the same spot I last saw him before I went to the surgery room..gave me a hug and tell me that I am a strong girl..to that, I sobbed even more..I know..i sound pathetic now...Sigh..
He helped me to collect my medications and set my appointment to get my stitches out in 2 weeks time. At that point of time, I can’t wait to go home and down my painkillers! So uncomfortable!

Reached home, started to feel drowsy..Heck, NOW the sleeping pill takes effect!!!??
I popped in 2 painkillers and an antibiotic and went off to bed. When I woke up, the pain is more bearable and my lips and tounge are no longer numb.
I staggered to look in the mirror, GAWD! My lower cheeks were swollen up! Except that my left side is swollen more than the right… I look like
SINCHAN!

Religions Are Sensitive Issues

.

I received an email today highlighting about a Muslim journalist and a friend who went to two churches in KL and writing an article, published in Al Islam magazine on their May 2009 issue .Following the article, a police report was made by two Catholic men, one of them I knew well as we went to the same church.

Reading the article “"Tinjauan Al Islam Dalam Gereja: Mencari Kesahihan Remaja Murtad" makes me go.. GOSH!! Like that also they can think of!

If Catholics gets lotsa cash by bringing the Muslim to be converted, I think I would be rich by now.. hahaha..

It’s not wrong to visit and join the congregation at church for mass/services. Even if it’s for journalism purposes, they don’t have to be following EVERY SINGLE thing the Catholics does at church..I have Buddhist friends who join me for Sunday mass before and I didn’t tell them “If we kneel, you must kneel, If we bow, you must bow’. No such thing! They are allowed to just sit and be as stiff as a rock if they want to..There’s no law saying a non-Catholic or Christian individual MUST do what we do in church..

If I were the journalist, when the rest of the congregation starts to walk up to the priest or communion minister to receive Holy Communion, I would be curios, yes, but I would rather OBSERVE around and realized that not EVERYONE went up to receive Holy Communion and by then I would just remain in my seat and watch the process taking place. Beside, I’m sure there would be a short announcement from the commentator that “ The Holy Communion is a sacred practice, ONLY BAPTIZED and PRACTICING Catholics are welcome to receive Holy Communion”. So I guess they must be deaf too..

Visitors are allowed to visit churches but of course, one must have respect to a place of worship & holiness. For example, if I go to a Chinese or Indian temple or even a mosque and they require me to remove my shoes before I enter and musn’t talk loudly, then I do it with respect. Same goes to churches!

Don’t make such a big HOOHAA if there’s no strong facts, my dear journalist. Don’t tarnish the image of your people and let us live in peace and respect for each other’s religions (faith) , traditions & cultures (race / ethnic).

Maxis FastTap

.

First, a mobile phone function is to enable the us to be reached at any time, anywhere (if we want to). Then the phone allows us to send short message text to others as another form of communication. Next, they introduced in-built camera, bluetooth, radio, mp3 and video player.. and the list goes on...

Today, they are taking the technology further by introducing intergrated mobile payment service by phone. Not using sms to make payments but more like Touch’n’ Go or VisaWave method.

"Maxis FastTap is the first global commercial service that intergrates multiple NFC ((Near Field Communication) applications for contactless credit card payment (in collaboration with Visa and Maybank) and Touch’n’Go electronic payment for toll and parking. NFC is a short-range wireless open-paltform technology that allows communication between devices at a close range. Maxis Communications Bhd, with partners Nokia, Visa, Maybank and Touch‘n’Go marks the first in the world milestones for contactless mobile payments using NFC technology" (theSun, Apr 14 ’09, pg 21)

Nokia 6212 classic which is 3G-enabled with 2 megapixel camera is currently the only NFC-enabled phone in the world and is priced at RM 899 (without contract) and at RM 499 (with Value Plus 150 plan/24 months contract).

What's next to be included in mobile phones?

What Happened in Class

.

It was killer brain cells class again. Starting of new chapter, beginning was mostly theoretical. I was looking at the lecturer but then again, my mind is not in class – it flew home and rested on my purple bed. Hahaha

My classmate stirred me up from my dream by passing me his note – I looked at him with a question marked face and then realised he wrote something on the note, “He’s sleeping”. I look at the direction of the guy who fell asleep last week and true enough , hands crossed, head tilt down a little to the left and eyes shut. The lecturer just asked him before beginning of the class “ Would you be awake today?” and he said “ Should be able to stay awake as I’m worjking from home whole day – enough rest” – but then again.. there he goes.. zzZZzzZZzzZZ.. hehehee
I smiled at my classmate and continued to observe that fella. His head starts to tilt and nod..which most people call it “fishing”. At one time, it could go one round…at times his head tipping as if he’s listening to some slow R&B music. Hahaha!!
Then I turn to my right, saw another of my classmate “fishing” but her fishing wasn’t as bad as the other guy :p But, it was quite entertaining to see them dozing off..hihihi

After the 15mins break, class resumed and the “fishing guy” is awake. At one point, he asked the lecturer, “Eh, how do we get the value of “X”?” Lecturer answered,” How? We calculate loh...” Hahahaha…At least this little joke also woke my another classmate who is sleepy :p
I sent an sms to her boyfriend “Your GF is “fishing” in the class..kekeke” but when the message was sent out, I realised I’ve sent it to my own classmate instead of her boyfriend.. LOLZ! So, basically, I’m sleeping unconciously too! HAHAHAHAHAHA

Human Traffic Jam in LRT

.

Drivers in KL, you think you hated the traffic jam so much? Well, at least you are in the comfort of your own air-conditioned car.
Give thanks that you don’t have to crammed up with strangers, smelling all kinds of body odours and getting your body in contact with other people around. On top of that, you have to tolerate standing in an uncomfortable position all the way to your destination. When you finally reached your destination, you’ve got to “fight” your way out before the door closses but once you’re out of the train, you breathe better and feel less stressed! That’s how I felt..haha..

Not only KL road traffic is crazy during peak hours, LRT (not to forget KTM & Monorail) have crazy human traffic jam too!
Sometimes, I start to have crazy thoughts, worrying whether the LRT will be derailed and fall onto the roads below due to overloaded passengers. *Shivers*

To avoid these human traffic jam, I’ve got to wake up earlier and reach the Kelana Jaya LRT station before 7.15am. After 7.15am, the queue will be stretched out so long, it makes you feel like, "Oh well, lets get back to sleep and come back later". But of course I didn't :p

If I’m lucky, I’m still able to get a seat and have a more relaxed journey. But, when I’m not so lucky, with my height and size, I got squashed in between “giant’ human beings. @_@

A shout out to all perverts who doesn't know how to keep their hands to themselves, "Watch out! If you decided to pull your nonsense stuffs on wrong person such as your's truly in crowded LRT, You'll be SORRY!" Muahaha ^O^

However, LRT ride is not always a nightmare.. it's just during peak hours and unscheduled technical issues that occurs :P

For the benefit of those who never took LRT or busses in KL before, click here to go to Rapid KL's website to have a look at the LRT Route Map / Ticket Fares:)

What’s My Race?

.

I was born in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah but was raised in Penang since I was 4 months young. My Dad is a Chinese, my mom is a Sino-Kadazan (Chinese + Kadazan). For the benefit of those who haven’t heard of Sino-Kadazan, it is a phrase used to describe the half Kadazan and half Chinese race.
My birth certificate and identity card bears a Chinese name. However, my birth certificate shows my race as “Chinese” but my Identity Card shows my race as “Sino-Native’.

When someone ask me, what is your nationality? I would simply answer “I’m a Malaysian”. However, when they ask me what’s my race, I’ll take some time to answer : Chinese? Sino-Kadazan? Most of the time, when they finally strike out the possibility that I’m a Malay (because I don’t look like a Chinese), they would then guess that I’m a Sino. I do have some people thinking I'm Portugese, Siamese, Filipino or Indonesian..On the contrary, my sister is fairer and she usually gets people thinking she's Chinese or Korean :P
What should I fill up in the race column in forms? Chinese or Sino-Kadazan? Hmm?? To make things simple – I shall just state “Chinese” under the race column since my dad is Chinese.

I have a bad habit – when I go shopping, and the sales person walks up to me and started to speak to me in Bahasa Melayu, I’ll smile at the person and said “Thank you, I was just looking around” , then I’ll walk out of the shop even I have the intention to buy the item.
There’s one incident when I was with my sister at a pharmacy. She and I was browsing on the many types of vitamins being displayed and soon enough, a salesgirl walked up beside us. She said,”Ini semua ada diskaun”. Then I told my sister in a tone a bit louder than a whisper “Oh there goes, I’m so not buying from here”...Giggled and then I walk out of the shop while my sister still continue browsing. When my sister got out from the pharmacy, she said the salesgirl apologised to her for thinking we’re Malays because she said we don't have Chinese eyes...Haaa???

Anyway, since my mom is a bumiputra, I wrote to Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara to clarify whether I’m considered as a bumiputra or not. The reply I received as follows :

In Wikipedia the defination of Bumiputra:
1. Peninsular Malaysia : "If one of the parents is Muslim Malay or Orang Asli as stated in Article 160 (2) Federal Constitution of Malaysia; thus the child is considered as a Bumiputra"

2. Sabah :“If a father is a Muslim Malay or indigenous native of Sabah as stated in Article 160A (6)(a) Federal Constitution of Malaysia; thus his child is considered as a Bumiputra"

3. Sarawak :"If both of the parent are indigenous native of Sarawak as stated in Article 160A (6)(b) Federal Constitution of Malaysia; thus their child is considered as a Bumiputra"

According to the Perlembagaan, I can be considered a bumiputra.
According to Wikipedia, since my dad is a Chinese, then I ought to be Chinese instead.
Hmm..I’m starting to feel a bit dizzy.. hahaha
